Terry L. Shaffer

Terry was born March 25, 1943 in Denver, Colorado. He graduated from Meritt Hutton High School of Thornton, Colorado in 1962. After high school Terry entered the Navy and served on the U.S.S. Oriskany, stationed in San Diego, California. He proudly served his country and enjoyed seeing Japan. After the Navy he was driving truck cross country and met his wife, Karen in Williston, North Dakota. In 1976 they married and moved to Missoula, Montana where they had two wonderful daughters, Elizabeth and Janette. In 1979 they moved to the Denver Metro area where he was a mechanic and drove truck locally for over 20 years. Terry retired from driving truck in 2004. They moved to Burlington, Colorado in 2008 and then to Idalia, Colorado in May 2009. Terry enjoyed living in the country and in the small farming communities. He was diagnosed with cancer, June 1, 2010 and passed away on February 2, 2011 at Wray Community Hospital. Terry is survived by his wife, Karen of 34 1/2 years; daughters, Elizabeth (Jim) Slagle of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Jeanette (Jacob) Portanova of Post Falls, Idaho; three very special grandsons, Shawn of Cheyenne; Austen and Dakota of Post Falls, sister-in-law, Myrtle Olive in Idalia, and brother, Larry (Darla) Shaffer of Westminister, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his mother Clarice Shaffer, father, Elmer Hillgardner, and step-father, Wilbur Shaffer. Cremation was requested and no services will be held.  Spellman-Schmidt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
